Remove CF Light From Fixture?
I have a Coralife 24" 65 watt single bulb fixture sitting directly on a custom cut piece of glass above my 29 gallon. I built a nice hinged hood and would like to remove the glass to make feeding and tank access easier. Any advice on mounting the fixture to the canopy? Fixture gets pretty hot so I don't really see this as an easy option directly on wood. My main goal would be to remove the guts from the fixture mount the light to the hood and move the electrical down in the stand. Anyone tried this before? Or have any better ideas?
Thanks, Chris

Two options, both involving nylon stand offs that you can purchase at most any good hardware store or big box hardware store.
One solution is to take the bulb/tube/lamp out of the fixture and drill a couple of mounting holes through it. The ballast and wiring are in the back third of the fixture. The other solution would be to gut the fixture and mount the reflector and retaining clips to the canopy. Both options would use the stand offs to allow air to flow between the canopy top and the reflector. |

Nice idea Boss. I know exactly what parts you're talking about. If I scrap the fixture, wonder if there would be problems with moisture from evaporation since the glass will be removed and the electrical exposed?
