blue tetra question

i have 7 blue tetras in my 29 gallon tank with 6 amano shrimp. they are pretty nippy with each other. i would like to increase their numbers to 12 because i heard that in bigger groups they might be less nippy/aggressive with each other.

my problem is that these guys are huge now compared to what they have in the store. mine are at least double the size of the ones in the store, some are even bigger. do you think it will still be ok to add the smaller ones or will it cause the smaller ones to be harassed? my tank is iwagumi style so there is only rocks and java moss (well, i am about to add dwarf chain swords today) so there isn't much cover for the fish.

is adding 5 new, much smaller, fish to my tank a bad idea?

You will have no problems. They won't kill each other; they will just establish a healthy order of dominance.

IDK personally about the difference in size issue, but I would be sure to not put any other fish in there- these guys can be really rough on other fish, especially peaceful community fish...

Is it an option to QT the new fish (which I would recommend anyways) and see if giving them a month or two in QT would give them a bit more time to grow?
