10 gallon overhang?

I want to set up a new 10 gallon and have a location for it on a desk shelf. The shelf is plenty solid but is 10 1/4" deep. My 10 gallon measures 10 1/2" deep. Will it be ok for a 1/4" to overhang?

If you want to play it safe you can cut a board to the size of the tank. Place the tank on the board and the board on the shelf.

That was my first thought, but I thought I would check and see if it would be ok with out it. It would look better without a board and save me the trouble of making one.

I vote board. You might be able to pick up a scrap of MDF of other laminated material.

Just make sure when you say the shelf is solid that you mean 100lbs solid. Personally I find it hard to believe that any shelf is capable of holding that much weight in such a concentrated footprint.

Gotta agree with G-G...that's a heckuvalotta weight for just a 'desk shelf', no matter what sized boad you put beneath it.

Don't worry, it'll hold.

Not your average desk shelf, I can sit it on it and its rock solid. I weigh twice as much as the 10 gallon.

I think in these situations you have to ask yourself, what is the worst that can happen? If your able to find the answer to that question and are comfortable with the answer than go for it.
