Beauty found in unlikely places

So I went out to the garage to do some laundry and right on the wall was this lovely Io moth! Never heard of them before, until I did some research and found out that this is a female. Pretty so I thought I'd share. Pleasant surprise as I love seeing beautiful creatures like this and this one just happened to be in the most unlikely of places!

She's gorgeous! I love moths. When I was living in Hollywood I had a huge moth fly into my living room, I think it was a hawk moth.
My dogs and cats ran after it and I had to out run them! She landed on the side of my couch and opened her wings up all the way and looked like mothra. It barely fit into my hands as I tried not to crush it, she had to be 4+ inches. I let her go back outside and watched her fly away and I regret not getting a pic of her but I wanted her to be safe.

WOW! I can't imagine a moth that big! Apparently Io's are mostly active at night, so right now she must be resting as she hasn't moved despite all my activity in the garage! It's a warm day here in FL too, so she must also be enjoying the cooler spot of the garage with the door open.

Neat. I love weird and strange critters.

Here, we have what is known as the lunar moth. It looks like this.

Its wing span is 5"-6". Quite a large moth indeed.
