I have to say, I did not complete to see this video, why?! Its is cruelty to place 3 whale shark in a tank, in nature they will cross the whole ocean, what do the human can offer as big enough for this creature to live ? It is like place an Oscar in a Betta tank.

would be wonderful to see colorful ocean fishes but not a whale on there.

I think 2217 would be to small. Some sort of overflow perhaps with a 500,000 gallon sump. Although it would take a lot of duct tape to seal it to prevent gas off.

I worked for many years in the gulf of Mexico, as a commercial diver and underwater welder. And two times we had a whaleshark swimming with us around one of the platforms we were working on. It was definitly amazing!

MisterGreen, I heard the same thing. Last I heard they got a green light on it. It's supposed to be like 8 stories of aquariums but I wonder if they are going to try to do a big tank similar to this but a little bit smaller. It would be awesome. There are soooo many tourist down there I could just imagine the money they'll make!

Comatoast I think they use a sump...

I remember when it had just hit 1 million hits ... It wasn't that long ago lol

Is this video not of Kuroshio Sea, in Okinawa Japan and not the Georgia Aquarium?

They look similar, but the title is of the title name of a japanese aquarium. If you listen to this exact video with no music.... you'll hear what is obviously not english in the background.

That is pretty amazing...
We are members of the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, and they don't have anything on that. The behind the scenes is pretty cool at those places.
The protein skimmer is about 20 foot tall and the collector is the size of 55gl barrel. That's just one of them, each system has multiple u/v and various filtration depending on the environment it serves. Depending on fish only or reef.
That's probably why that giant one has no scaping of any kind.

And as far as that being like an Oscar in a 10gl tank.... They look to have as much room as any other typical shark reef tank, or seaworld tank, probably better.
So more like an Oscar in a 40gl.... IMHO

Georgia aquarium has a 6.3 million gallon tank. But this video is of the one in Japan which has almost 2 million gallons.
