Help me build my 24 gal shrimp tank

This is a nano reef that I am converting to a shrimp tank. The tank is 23.5" L, 13.5" W, 14" tall. It has a built in sump with three chambers. It came with a 150W MH light, which I will not be using.

I need suggestions on lighting, filtration (how to utilize the sump and/or should I add a canister?), substrate, CO2 (can I use a paint ball set or do I need something more hi-tech?).

I will be using one of the pictured nano stumps, but could could also use suggestions on landscaping, plants and tank mates for the shrimp.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Marty

Hey Marty,

That is a nice looking tank! If you are going high tech with CO2 than a dual fixture T5HO would be good suspended over the tank. You can use the Lighting Sticky to figure out how high to hang it to get the appropriate lighting.

If the sump is there, I would use it. You may get some CO2 outgassing though depending on how much surface agitation it creates. I would try it out with your CO2 set-up and monitor the CO2 concentration with your drop checker. If you find that you are using too much CO2 to keep it stable then you can make the switch to a canister.

There are alot of threads using a paintball set-up, so it is definitely doable. I have never done it so I don't know much about it, but I think you can even attach a solenoid to it to make it automated.

Now lets see some pics of that wood in the tank
