What are you running in your eheim

Just a Question

I have the eheim 2215 running the out of box setup .

Id love to here what others are recomending for the planted tank setup and why . Using the EI we have to clean the eheim every 2 weeks so I imagine others who do this method have removed the EfiGlass and such .

If not let me know as I am trying to learn .

Jk

Eheim Pro 2128

Eheim recommended media - Ehfimech + Eheim course pad in first basket, Ehfisubstrat Pro in second and third baskets.

At the top, I have replaced the Eheim carbon pad with three 100mL packets of Seachem Purigen. Finally I have the Eheim fine pad on top.

Ehfisubstat Pro is best in all their canisters as it doesn't compact in the baskets over time. EXCEPT for their "breathing" or "wet dry" filters, those require the Ehfisubstrat (non-"Pro"), since water and air are being swished around inside. The design relies on the rough edges of the non-"Pro" Ehfisubstrat media.

In my 2026 and my 2224 I have the standard configuration, works great!
And in my 2213 I have foam pads and filter wool, it is the mechanical filter so it doesnt need bio media.

Keep in mind, that with an established tank, the plant's are the bio media/filter.
If you want to keep up with and clean all that other Ehfi-jive, is totally your call.

I have been running my 2215 basically right out of the box for the last year. I tried floss on top but did not like it as nice as the Eheim pad.

I have been doing Tom’s EI for the last 4 months and I must have missed the clean every 2-weeks. I clean every 45 days with no problems. Can you provide a link where he suggests 2-weeks.

I have no idea what Tom recommend's for filter cleaning procedure, I think he is getting that from a statment I made in another thread to another individual, and I made the statement/suggestion, because I use floss and was recommending using floss, it is just so easy to maintain,
Obviously one can choose/change media/ clean filter as they will,
But it seem's to me that Dosing EI & with a heavy water change to re-set tank on a weekly basis, and changing/cleaning filter/media on a bi-weekly basis to maintain pristine water conditions would/is a plus, without any ill effect's.
That's my experience, 10 minute's start to finish and filter is clean & re-installed.
The plant's are the bio filter, the canister is mechanical...
Your thought's?

I think it was me you suggested the Floss too (which im now using). Its excellent, though retains ALOT of water when trying to drain the water from the pump (grins)

I pretty much have floss in my two filters...I do have the efhi something that is the large ceramics at the bottom...that stuff seems to work wonders in filtering out huge chunks of crud. I had some old filstar course and medium pads that I retro fitted into my eheims (both 2213 and 2224) and then top it off with about 5-6 inches of the wal mart pillow stuffing (rolled layered kind). That's worked like a charm for me, and Wolf's right, once you get the hang of it, it takes about 10 minutes to change out or rinse the pads.

How often do you clean out the impeller then?

You can clean the impeller when you clean the filter. Cleaning the impeller is a simple process, and will only take a couple of minutes.
