lighting?

Any guidance on lighting for a terrarium?

Are there any rule of thumbs like the 3wpg standard for planted tanks?

From playing around with hydroponics I can tell you that full sun plants require a min of approx 25 watts per square foot of lighting, point source (metal halide or sodium vapor) preferred for its ability to penetrate the tops for good lower leaf development.

Lettuce and other partial shade plants seems to do fine at around 16 watts per square foot, and bc of veg growth its ok to use fluorescents

So what about tropicals such as orchids, or other tank appropriate tropical plants?
