Mr Aqua 12g long tank lighting question

I recently purchased a Mr. Aqua 12g long tank after reading so many amazing journals.

My plan is a Iwagumi style HC only with fish later on. I'll be growing the HC emmersed and while that's going I'll start piecing together some CO2.

As of now, I've got my stand build and now I need to worry about lighting.

I like the idea of hanging lights and was thinking 2x 10" Pendant lamps with some PAR20 LED bulbs...or some other type of LED light?

I'm not quite sure I understand the lighting requirements and such.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link! I'll probably go with the same fixtures with 14w CF ~8in from the top.

Thank you!

Thanks, great link.

I'm actually reconsidering the height of the lights now. With 2 bulbs I maybe need to increase the height maybe a few more inches?

I was just in Home Depot last night and noticed that these had a high lumen/watt value (73):

They were also light and would probably not cause a gooseneck fixture to bend (like the PAR30 that I got). Two of these over a 12 would be perfect.

By the way, the Lowes bulb is 3000k and 60 l/w whereas the HD bulb is 4900k and 73 l/w.

Those lenses look frosted in the pix. The specs say clear. If you're going after the shimmer effect in the water, the frosted lens will disappoint I think.

Thanks guys!

I was kinda hoping to stick with CF bulbs since i4x4nMore did that nice CF bulb post in the lighting stickies.

With ~9in of water and 2x CF 19W 5500k about 8 inch it looks like I maybe able to get med/high lighting to grow HC.

Thoughts?

Lights, then CO2. Just keep in mind - light drives EVERY other parameter. So, lights define ferts, define CO2, define trimming, define general maintenance. The more light you have, the more of everything you have to pay attention to.
