Rocks

I know its been covered but all the websites with aquascaping rocks are sold out and I went to my local rock place and found nothing...

Any other suggestions?

When I lived in NH, I would not dream of buying rocks. Now that I live in FL, I've checked out every fish store and landscape supply place in the area. I hate buying rocks!

Sorry 2 hear that guys, here in Tn. all I gotta do is walk out in my front yard and gather sum up. Just wash and boil them n u r in there. Gl though, hope u figure sumthin out and not let this deter u.

No fast flowing rivers nearby? Ask a farmer if they have piles of field stone. Worst comes to worst, grab a shovel and start digging.

Its Chicago... We have Lake Michigan and Chicago River, both have no decent aquascaping rocks.

Jon - Here are a few options.

1. Birds & Beast petshop in Crystal Lake. They sometimes keep pagoda rock, petrified wood and some other decent rocks.
2. Call Aquarium Adventure and check when they will get their next rock delivery. They have a guy from TN delivering and last time they got a jaw dropping collection of petrified wood comparable to manten rock texture. Unfortunately, it is all gone most probably by now.
3. Check out local landscaping yards. There is one south of Milwaukee, 1/2 hr drive from here, but they allow you to look around, pick and choose. If you have some time you can get some good quality rocks. Make sure to take a pickup and some plastic containers.

Look on google maps and find some streams and go check them out. We have greenway trails and paths near streams here, works great b/c you don't have to worry about trespassing. I would not think for a second about buying rock. The earth is full of rock.

Other options find a stormwater pond....alot of times there will be nice chunks of granite around the overflow or intake. Rip rap is just a bunch of rock.

Go for a weekend vacation or day trip to a state park that features streams and hiking. How about Castle Rock State Park? Take a back pack...see a rock you like pick it up and toss it in.
