Mr. Aquarium and High-Tech Aquarium

In Lubbock, TX...yeah, not much else out there but them cows (not the girls).

Mr. Aquarium: University and 34th: nice store, they have an extensive SW collection and a decent variety of basic FW fish. Not really may exotics though. They have a decent display tank that has the "works": pressurized, fluorite, discus, etc. But for some reason what they have in there they don't sell. They do carry discus, but they always seem in poor shape and all huddled up in a corner (also malnutritioned since they look so scraggly). Sometimes they have some decent plants.

High-Tech: another nice store (can't remember the street). Decent freshwater fish and some pretty good plants when I go. They have a monster plant tank with some stuff for sale. Usually a bunch of Rotala species, swords, and they do have a tank full of dwarf sag that is being overrun. Also picked up some Amano shrimp there for the GF's 10 gallon.

Well hi-tech went out of buisness at the end of October. I will miss them, got many good deals there. Mr Aquarium is now under new ownership and has gotten much better. They still need a little work on the variety of exotics. Their plant selection has gotten bigger, as they have expanded. They just got through adding a bunch of tanks on bot the salt and fresh section (fresh still under construction). I hope that they get a better section of fish other than you typicals. If i wanted those I would go to petdumb I meant petsmart!

Their salt selection is as large as any I have seen in Dallas or panhandle area. Very nice new frag tanks! Decent selection of fish.

Have not been to Waynes World of Pets in a while, not since they moved. Will try to go today and post an update on what they seem to have.

If its the Waynes on 34th down from Mr Aquarium, the one time I was in there they didn't have hardly any fish. Mainly a creepy crawler store.

Mr Aquarium really is the only choice here in lubbock. I got a 90 gallon tank from them along with a filstar. I've also gotten some stuff over the net. But I do enjoy going there. Just got some stuff from him yesterday. 3 otto's and 3 platy's.

There plant section is getting better, but the stuff I'm wanting they don't have.

Mr. Aquarium (formerly known as Aquarilease) has always been owned by the same person. The owner is very nice and a really good guy, but always swamped. Hard to find good help around here. Only the name changed. He really isn't on the up & up about plants, but he's trying, as his clientelle is primarily SW. He's got a really nice frag tank set-up now. If you're looking for plants in this area, your best bet is me. Just drop me a PM!
