I haven't seen this movie (yet), but from what I've heard people either absolutely *love* it or absolutely *hate* it. From the previews I've seen, it looks a lot like a male version of Welcome to the Dollhouse (funny, funny, tragically sad movie).

Life. It's an incredibly accurate portrayal of life as many of us have known it.

Haha, it cracks me up how he talks with his eyes closed. I knew a kid who would do that. My personal guess as to why he does it is because he doesn't FLIPPIN CARE WHAT YOU THINK so he shuts his eyes, LOL.

Maybe that's why it wasn't funny to me. I knew a kid that was about as socially inept as him and he drove me nuts.....

It's not funny, it's quite sad.

I can't agree more with George. The movie sucked, had it's lighter moments but all in all it sucked. I can see what they were trying to do with it (which was absolutely nothing), but I don't get why it was such a big "hit". Although I can kinda relate to Napolean's uncle. I'm always trying some kinda "get rich quick" scheme!

Dude, what exactly did you expect out of the movie? A movie doesn't need some ultra-intense-covert operation like the 'Bourn Supremacy' in order to make it worthwhile. Sometimes it is just a snapshot of a life we can all relate to, and have forgotten. Who cares if there isn't some adventure, or goal, or plot at all.

If you don't get Napoleon Dynamite, you probably also hated 'Dazed and Confused', which was also an awesome movie with no plot whatsoever.

The best thing about High School Girls is I keep getting older but they stay the same age.

OK Gulf Coast, do me a favor and stop making assumptions. I watched "dazed and confused" so many times I wore out the tape. And as for " some ultra-intense-covert-operation" I really could care less about movies like that. Just because that idiotic movie made sense to you, doesn't mean I had to like it or even care that it was made in the first place. I was simply expressing an opinion.... and I think you were the guy that "Just wants to dance". So go stick that in your pipe and smoke it... Male Monkey ******

Dude, you need to calm down. I was having a discussion and I was correlating the lack of need for a heavy plot by mentioning D&C. So my assumption was incorrect. You don't have to take it personal. I'm glad you enjoyed Dazed, I figured you might be able to see the correlation.

Hey GCA,

I was geek girl in the 80's, and I really liked the movie.....most of the people I know that love it, are easy going (slighty geeky) and have funny even weird sense of humor's and the people I know that hate it....are very uptight and serious. Just a generalization, but it's what I've seen so far.........it has a cult following now.....

Some get it, some don't. Your generalization probably isn't far off, but then again I know some easygoing people that don't like movies at all!

my wife has a friend who has seen it twice. she and her brother are pretty easy-going (but then, wouldn't most people describe themselves as such?) and loved it. then she watched it with her husband who is a doctor at the mayo clinic in AZ... he is originally from india and probably missed some of the subleties, but he is also extremely straightforward and basically has no sense of humor. he HATED it, and his wife, my friend, decided that it wasn't so good after watching it with him the second time around. or was that big lebowski? by the way, the big lebowski is the funniest film about a bowling contemporary hippie and his hardcore nam-vet best friend with a plot involving nihilist pseudo-kidnappers and the porn industry ever made by a team of brothers named joel and ethan.

I love "The Dude"!
The Big Lebowski is definitely similar to Napoleon Dynamite as far as sense of humor goes. I love when they are having the memorial service, planning on dumping the ashes out to sea, and the wind blows them right back in his face, hahahaha.

my favorite part of lebowski right now (i watch it weekly on average)
the dude, donny, and walter are sitting at the bowling alley bar, and the dude is explaining how the nihilists threw a maromet into his tub on his genitals, and walter stammers along with something along the lines of "and another thing... umm... keeping an amphibious rodent... for uhh... within the city... limits... well, that ain't legal either!" to which the dude replies "what are you now, a f*&#ing park ranger!?!?"
Phillip Seymour Hoffman is also fantastic as "Brandt", the big lebowski's personal assistant and "yes" man. "her life is in your hands, dude. mr. lebowski asked me specifically tell you that... her life is in your hands" and "mr. lebowski is in seclusion in the west wing..." with the melodramatic arm flourish... brilliant.

anyone who hasn't seen it, rent it... those who have rented it, buy it!
