Glosso-spread out or leave in mesh?

Picked up some Glosso, came encased, growing out metal grid frame. LFS guy said to work the mesh into the sand and leave it like that. I'm content to do so if it will stay alive like that. My question is, is it absolutely necesarry to cut it apart and plant it individually, like I've seen in a link someone posted before? thx

I would imagine that as long as the metal grid is aquarium safe, you should be fine leaving the Glosso the way it is.
