The official Orchid thread!

Alright, so I know some of you are really into orchids and I am getting into them! Right now I only have two orchids (Phalaenopis sp. hybrids), but I would like to get more! I don't if I can label this "official", but I am anyway

I just got a new one today from Home Depot, I am going to try and figure out the specie hybrid later.

Lots of pictures of one plant I know, but I was just messing with my camera. I really want to get a DSLR now

I have three different orchids in my plant wall. I have new growth on all of them, but it will be a while before I start to get new stalks. I really like orchids, but I don't know much about them. I was really happy last year when I actually got a Phalaenopis to bloom again after a year.

That yours Dave?

I am going to try and get a bigger collection this summer, but I am not sure. My Phal that I bought last year at wal-mart for five dollars isn't doing that well. It shot out a new leaf but it broke, and two other leaves have died. I am trying to save it though!

Have you checked out the orchid forums. They are just as crazy about their orchids as we are about out fish and plants.

Yes I have! I am a member on Orchidboard, haven't posted there yet (maybe once...) but I think I will become a avid member! Got any pictures of your orchids Jason? Leaves need their spotlight too!

Didn't see Eden's post, that was a beautiful orchid!

Thanks!! I was disappointed that it died, I spent like half an hour trying to decide which pattern I like the best and would take home. I got it at Home Depot or Lowes, can't remember which.

Maybe I will try again later in the Spring, when I put some of my Carnivorous Plants outdoors, I will have room on my plant shelf in my room since I have a humidifier set up there for my Sundews and Butterworts.

There's an orchid farm not too far from our place, here's the type of orchid they have hundreds of:

And check out this BIG MOMMA orchid that the owner says isn't for sale. It's a monster!

nice one caton! unfortunately, there are so many hybrid phals that all look alike. its impossible to ID a plant that doesnt have a label. yours is beautiful either way though!

ahh, i collect a few.. maybe about 40.

im also a member at orchidboard. its a great place i encourage you, caton, to participate in the spring project. its basically where a group of people all buy the same plant and compare conditions and results. its a good way to branch out and get things you would have never gotten on your own.

here are some pics that were alrready uploaded to my picasa

here is my set-up. have 4 t12s over each shelf.
