Question about diffuser.

I just bought a 45mm Atomic diffuser and seen around the forums that using start right or a water conditioner that adds a slime coat is not good for them... I have used start right to do my water changed before , so my question is how should I go about this? Just drain the tank completely and seachem prime or what? This is my first time with a Co2 setup.
