I frequent All Pets Club in Wallingford (Rt 5) and Branford (on Rt 1). They have a decent selection of fish and plants, as well as a decent amount of variety.
Another good place for fish is Petstar in Branford, also on Rt 1. I've been to others, but nothing that has really impressed me in regards to freshwater. BTW, there's another shop in Milford called Purrrfect pets that is pretty good for locating hard to find fish. I'd really like some good places for plants. |

There are no really good shops near me so I buy most of my plants from members here on the forum in S&S. Quantities and quality are always better as well as the price.
I also dont buy fish very often so most shops serve me well as long as they keep the tanks healthy.

I have a bunch of stores in my area but wouldn't go as far as calling their variety fantastic.

Oh man, thankyou thief ! I have never seen that site but I will be registering and spending a few hours on that one later today. It looks like a great place to find new shops.
Welcome to the forum by the way.

I was pleasantly surprised by the plant selection and display setup at PetSmart in Norwalk. They had a lot of variety. My only gripe is that the lighting requirements they list for some of the plants is a bit lower than what it actually is.

What are the prices like at Greenwich Aquaria and House of Fins? I expect they run a bit higher than most, would that assumption be true?

Well it's greenish so yes prices I would say a generally a 1/3 higher than average. I've been there a couple times believe me it's probably the best Fish store in CT right now. They have a large variety of FW fish, plants not as much but they have them. Then they have 2 Awesome ADA display tanks. Literally amazing tanks. I went down there once just to look at it for a hour!

I remember a couple of LFS in Stamford/Norwalk area but they all went out of business last couple of years as Petsmart added its branches in Norwalk and earlier this year in Stamford. The ones that still around never seem to have any good variety fish or plants. Fish Bowl is the only one worth visiting on Hope St in Stamford

Waterbury Aquarium has a wide variety of fish collections (SW & FW) and some plants too... That's where I bought my dolomite!

I've given up on Fish Bowl in Stamford (even though I live two minutes away). Twice now I've asked them to order something for me, but they never called me back. I guess they're doing so well, they don't need my business. Purrr-fect Pets in Milford is OK, but I don't feel like driving up there...unless I'm bored.
For plants I use aquariumplants.com, for discus I use discusmadness.com (In NJ...just over an hour drive and I love seeing all the discus), and PetCo in Norwalk for tetras/algae eaters/food.

I would recomend House of Fins in greenwich. They have an amazing selection of live plants, 2 large tanks in the back and a few other smaller tanks in the freshwater section. Prices are not to bad for the plants. If you buy alot of plants they deff will give you a deal. The lower tank in the back has some really amazing rare plants you wont find anywhere else. Deff check them out.
