Glossostigma tips
Hey everyone. Just a quick question really. Ive tried planting up some glosso in my main tank. I've got fluval stratum substrate, pressurised co2, weekly frets and about 3wpg 6700k lighting. I planted them so I just had the very top leafs showing but had no success. To me these would seem like ideal conditions. I'm starting to think that my corys may be digging them up and I'm losing them that way.
So has anyone had similar problems having corys around? And are my conditions right for the glosso right? Thanks in advance

I consider myself a newb. I planted glosso in my 20g. I pulled everything apart and planted each double leaf individually. I buried up to the bottom of the leaves. After a week im getting some runners off of a few. Im using LEDs powered down to say a medium light, Dirt capped, and excel dosing with NPK + Iron. Ive had my glosso about 2 weeks.
I also have corys and they do dig them up. I have enough planted to were it doesent matter too much. |

Thanks for the reply. I can't understand what the issue is as there are definitely still plenty planted deep. All I can think is that maybe the light isn't getting down to them. Pretty disappointing especially when it seems to cost a fortune from where I buy it from. I suppose I could just buy more and keep trying

Keep some growing out of the tank in moist soil that way you always have some in reserve.

Good idea. I've just ordered some more so I'll have to set something up to grow my own stock. Thanks

Is it possible to grow glosso on my window sill? It would be in a shallow glass tank with the leaves just out of the water. Spraying daily with fresh water. Would this work? Obviously getting co2 naturally from the atmosphere and natural daylight through the window.
Has anyone tried this and had success?

I'm boggled as to why your having trouble with glosso. For me it's goes crazy.
Try gettin 1 runner of it and plant the whole thing like in a line. He'll I almost buried all the glosso I put in my tank and its still going crazy. High light |

Can you try measuring the PAR rather than the watts? Technicay I have 23w/gallon, but only 60PAR at the substrate level.

Is there a way of measuring that without having a par meter?

Tank is a 60 litre bow front. Erm 2ft wide, 18" tall and around 14" deep. 2 x 25w CFL. Pressurised co2 @ 2bps ish. I use a weekly fett but not really sure what its called. The first batch of glosso I put in was planted so the leaves were just showing. I could see new growth after a week or so but then the glosso seemed to disappear. I blamed the corys as they obviously snuffle through the substrate. I keep on top of water changes too. My hairgrass I have in has grown like mad and I've had to chop loads off. Must've been 2ft long some of it. I wonder if that was the issue actually. Hair grass could've been stealing the light I suppose??

Check out this thread on converting a cheap LUX meter into a reasonable PAR meter.

Me thinks you need more light. Add a 3rd bulb I have 6 23 watt spiral cfls over a 40 g breeder and my glosso loves me for it

Yeah I think you'll be right. I'll order up some stronger bulbs as the tank I have has a built in light unit. I'll see how I get on then let you guys know. Thanks
