Manzanita in Hawaii?

Hi,

Does anyone know if there are Manzanita trees growing anywhere on Oahu? I'd really like to find some dead branches.. they're so expensive to buy!

The other thing I thought might be good, are the red guava trees that grow here.. the wood looks similar to Manzanita I think. Anyone tried this?

Other than that, are there any good places to find nice rocks and wood?

Thanks!

(pls PM me if you'd rather not make public any location)

Hopefully that helps
If not, then check your local laws and regulation on collecting driftwood.

Thanks for that.. not sure if this was an article or not, but I just saw a list of pet stores.
I'm interested in finding some nice driftwood myself, rather than buying from a store.

Pay the air fare and one or more of us will lay over at a nice Western state for a few days and collect all the Manzanita we can stuff into our checked baggage and carry ons.

Ironwood and guava(your local manzy actually, but its a weedy non native unlike Manzy in CA).

These can be found on most islands and in creeks, mostly on the Kanehoe side on Oahu and ironwood is common along some of the other islands(South side of Maui etc).

Oh, awesome! Thanks for that info! (so, is guava wood the same as Manzanita?)
