also, I don't need a powerhead, right? I have a filter that does 80 gallons per hour so i figured that was enough flow

You won't need a powerhead for a tank that small. Your filter should be fine.

yes the filter is fine, this isnt SW reef lol, where a powerhead would be beneficial.

haha good, the closes i've come to doing a planted tank (other than the one at school) was a reef

sorry Newman, but my reef tank was overcome by some sort of sickness, and all the corals and anemones died, i still have 3 fish and have kept it that way for a while now, but I am thinking of getting back into it when I finish this tank, I will keep you posted!
