Also - for many interesting ideas re: tanks, lighting, etc, I recommend a visit to Aquatic Creations in Williamsburg. A real emphasis on planted tanks and unusual aesthetics. Great place.

That's great news!

I guess you already know (from my response), how hard it is to find an lfs in NYC that sells algae eating fish/shrimps, a variety of REAL aquatic plants and the equipment needed to maintain planted tanks. I have been searching for a long time for a store like this. To know that it's in Brooklyn and so close to me is such a pleasant surprise.

I'll definitely give them a visit. Thanks for the info.

Really nice place, and they seem to care about shrimps and plants just as much as live rock and custom work. Don't miss The Cube. I've bought excellent young shrimp from them.

Their nano-reefs are also tres cool.

Well i just took the train out to Bklyn today to go to this store. I have to say i was disapointed.....there are TWO SMALL aisles of freshwater fish and plants.....If i lived close to this place, maybe i would go again, but as a destination(driving there) i wouldnt bother. Im not a fan of New World , but i have to say they have WAY more selection than Aquatic Creations.
I guess i will be mail ordering my plants.
Just my two cents.

Their fish selection is sort of small, but I think their plant selection is nicer than New Worlds. Half the time i go into New Worlds, the plants are all nasty looking.

Plus Aquatic Creations carries Amano shrimp and some other stuff that New world doesn't.

I guess both have their pluses.
