Rex Grigg DIY Reactor
Anyone in the Queens/Brooklyn or even Long Island area know where I can find the pieces to build this reactor? I already checked my local Home Depot but they didn't have most of the parts.

Home depot carries the pipe and some fittings but not the reducers that you need. I sourced my parts from both lowes and hole depot.

where did you find the plastic hose barbs that the hoses connect to? or did you use brass ones?

check lowes again. I think I got mine in the lawn sprinkler section, but thats here in Maryland... Also, you dont need the exact size. I got my 5/8 tube to fit onto 3/4 barb w/ a little bit of petroleum jelly and warming up the tubes in hot water.
edit: they were plastic too |

the hose barbs you need are nylon, not brass. brass no bueno.
you can get them in the plumbing section of home depot or lowes.

Care to justify this statement? I have used brass parts in several reactors that have lasted forever and never had a problem with tank inhabitants, including shrimp.

so i can use brass hose barbs? that makes it a little easier =] also has anyone NOT used 2" PVC pipe? Can you make the reactor with a smaller diameter pipe, say 1 1/2 "? I have an eheim 2217 filter if that has anything to do with it.

yes, I use brass with no problem. Others have too.
I would use 2 inch. 1.5 inch would push the bubbles out quick. |
