New Type of Aquarium
There are some very professional aquascapes here!
New to the forum but not to aquascaping. I have been working on a new type of aquarium that is similar to a vivarium; However, it utilizes a specific design to enable seperate water and land portions to combine in one structure. It is not a vivarium because both parts are fully land and fully water. These are not complete, yet. I will be uploading more "tequariums", which is what I call it, next week. Please forgive the photo it was taken with a very cheap camera. I am almost finished writing a free small book about the tequarium's structual design and techniques for decoration (with better photos). |

I like that shape.
Is this not a paludarium?

Thank you. Glad you like the shape. There are variations similar to this structure that I made.
A paludrium has land attachments rising above the water. It also primarilay uses semi aquatic plants that grow from its roots planted in the water and the aquarium is half (or less) filled. The tequarium has common soil on both sides. A desert type setting can be made, which I am in the process of doing. I have posted another type of design for biotopes in the low tech section. |

Nice design! I like it.
It's a paludarium with two land regions. No need for a neologism, IMHO. |

Thanks for the positive replies!
I decided to change this around. Those plants that look like trees threw the scale off. Infact, that is the method use, "scaling", as in a model scale of a landscape. Here is another that I am in the process of doing. Need to wait a bit for the grass to grow along the edges where I planted seeds. Lava rocks were seperated by a sheet of plastic in the front. Two other sheets of glass were siliconed with lava rocks to blend with the setting better; thus, creating a river appearance. Hopefully it will come out that way. The empty one is for something I call "Compensation Biotope" method to make bland biotopes more detailed and attractive. I like biotopes but always felt there is something missing compared to the more colorful approaches. |

Do you do the black-trim on the glass yourself? That's slick looking!

I like that 56 riparium! Looks very natural, yet artistic.
These were all made by a aquarium maker and cost very little. However, the design is my own. I use paper models to avoid confusion since I'm not fluent in Chinese. Actually, it is a good idea anyway for planning and explaining. |

Great build! Love the center water feature! Great job! Not a huge fan of the light blue background though!

Thanks!
I actually like black better, but it seemed blue would go better with the setting. The book should be ready in a few days. Its nearly finished. Just waiting for the grass to grow in but might have to improvise since the photographer is coming tomorrow. |

Plan to upload the book tomorrow or the next day. Still waiting for some grass to grow along the edges on the right side.
Here is a a photo from a few days ago. The left side was completed yesterday. The lava rocks were piled along the edges (not this photo)to blend in more with the aquatic part. Posted a finished biotope in the low-tech forum. |
