Be careful with the food. The food not consumed by the fish ends up producing more trumpet snails.

THe best option is feed less, and bait them and pull out. I use a weighted piece of blanched zuccini over night, place on substrate, hand pick out.
Assassin snails have a hard time killing mts, so no luck there. Loaches are going to need a bigger footprint than that tank. |

Gah! I just bought assassin snails last week to take care of the MTS. Now you tell me this!
Well, 2 years ago I bought a clown loach to take care of the MTS, but apparently the loaches have different personalities, and this one doesn't eat many MTS at all. Perhaps he is sad because he is by himself.

Eek, loaches don't do well by themselves.

Rosy barbs...as long as they are not over a dime or so size my group of four will kill and eat any snail they can find within seconds. I initially had 30 - 40 snails in my tank while it was cycling thanks to some plants put them in and after an hour there was snail shells floating around...only one big one survived and they still try to eat it...

How big is that tank? Doesn't look to be 110g unless its 40" tall as it looks like a base of maybe 24x24

I was thinking the same thing. That cube tank has to be massive to hold twice the amt of water as my 55g.

Hi all and thank you for the quick responses. I do not overfeed for the fish in my tank an average of 4 times a week they recieve a pinch(almost all of it never hits the gravel) of flakes, 4-8 shrimp pellets alternated with 3 algae wafers. One to two times a week they are fed 3-4 brine shrimp or blood worm frozen cubes. I fast the tank 1-2 days a week depending on my mood. The snails are not out of control yet but I know that they can be very quickly. About weekly I scrape the side of the tank with a net and pull out what I can. The tank is to tall to reach the bottom without scuba gear on. What would I need to do to be able to allow the room for loaches(more tanks the merrier)

I can take a few MTS off your hands if you'd like. Just thru the generosity of my own heart of course....LOL

Assassin Snails will take care of the MTS without causing any compatability or oher problems. For a tank your size, get 20 and in a month your problem will be solved, populations in check.

Assassin Snails are shrimp killers. Mind you shrimp can breed quicker than they can kill them but the Assassin Snails will take care of your MTS and any other snails you may have no matter how large they are. They will also take care of any fish that may fall ill and lay on the bottom of the tank so keep this in mind.
I found this out the hard way in my 125. I will be tearing it down eventually and will get rid of these pests. I had hundreds of MTS and out of stupidity I purchased 4 Assassin Snails instead of just capturing them and throwing them away. Now with over 100+ Assassin Snails my tank has some algae issues that they would have taken care of. Be careful what you put in your tank. James

Assassin do kill shrimp, but not very often, only if they are not getting snails to eat. This is all IME. They will eliminate your MTS eventually. As mentioned, not over feeding will keep the numbers down.

Since assassin snails sell online for at least $2/snail, I've seen them go for $3. I say you sell some of those bad boys and put some of that cash back into your pocket or your tank. $200 extra might come in handy.
