20 gallon first planted tank.

Just layer down the dirt substrate. Layer of black blasting sand over it with white sand making a path down the middle. Have 3 sandstone rocks and mopani wood. I think I want to do a carpet of hair grass and then go from their. What would your suggestions be to get started? Anything better than hair grass for carpet? I want something that will be low maintenance.

I am still debating between DHG(dwarf air grass) and mirco sword myself, I like that both can be cut to a desired length but can't choose past that. That's a huge price of mopani! I usually only find ones 1/3rd that size around here. Whats the small plant in the left corner, a ludwigia?

Yes I do believe it is ludwigia. Picked it up at LFS and was in my 125 gal tank for some color. Moved it over when I decided to do planted tank. What do you think I should do with that mopani? Lots of Anubis attached or should I cover it with moss?

I am a big fan of Anubias. Also you could put in some Dwarf Sag for a ground cover type plant. It takes a while but will carpet in with time.

What about Hemianthus callitrichoides for foreground carpet? Is this easy to come by?

Dwarf hair grass just planted in foreground. Any recommendations for background plants?
