male cherries dying

i have no clue whats going on. i have a small colony of cherries and crystals in a 30g tank, and in the past week 5 males have died. i dont know why only the males are dying. also i thought cherries were ment to be tougher than crystals and 2 of my crs just got berried. is their some kind of disease that only effects male rcs?

are your shrimp turning a whitish color? If they are they are dieing due to bad water quality.

How long have you had your male RCS for? Their life span is pretty short, so it might just be due to natural death.

the dead shrimp are a creamy colour but i would have thought the crs would be the 1st to go if it was bad water quality, also its only the males that are dying. ive had them for approx 2 months with no deaths until now.

okay, i just did a big water change and put some activated carbon in the filter. i recently added some new drift wood and it has been releasing some tanins. hava tannins ever been known to kill shrimp?

I had plenty of tannins from an old cypress stump, but cherries weren't bothered at all.

Since you introduced aa piece of driftwood - you can ask yourself if it was scrubbed well, or how long was in water before transfered to your tank, then whether or not this driftwood could have been exposed to some chemicals?

If you eliminate all other possibilities, ask if they possibly had to much sex....

Are you seeing dead shrimp or just shrimp molts? I am not denying that you have dead shrimp but on the off chance....

i found out what was killing the cherries. it was the cleaner spraying her cleaning chemicals on the glass and some got in the tank. at this point i only have 4 females left......ugh. needless to say i got really pissed. i wonder why it didnt effect the crystals which just produced their first batch of baby shrimp. so tiny.
