The Fish Place

North Tonawanda, NY
Basically upstate near Buffalo
It has a very nice supply of fishes and plants. Most, if not all are very healthy and rarely do I see a sick/dead fish in a tank.
Bought my SAE's and Amano shrimps there too.
Located at:

Its by far the best fish store in the Buffalo area. I drive the twenty minutes to go there instead of the two minutes to go to the one here in Lockport.

Agreed. Best place I have been to. Great selection of healthy fish and plants and very reasonable prices on almost everything. I just moved out of the Buffalo area, and I know that I am going to miss the Fish Place the most.

How is the plant selection? What varieties have you seen in the shop?

The plant selection varies from time to time, but they usually always have things like java fern, westeria, sags, vals, sunset hydro, rotala indica, ludwigea, crypts(lots of varieties), microswords, anubias nana/barteri/ and coffee(sp?)
Some things which they might get every now and then would be like dwarf/hairgrass, bolbitis, red temple, lace java ferns, glosso, Aponogeton boivinianus/crispus, rotala wallichi/magenta, different variets of swords and bulbs plants and so much more I left out

They also have a whole backyard for pond plants and pond equiptment and such

I have won a couple of AquaBid auctions from Pete and have been very happy with the fish I have received. The one time I had an issue with a shipment, The Fish Place took care of it quickly and to my satisfaction!

When you’re right you’re right. The staff tends to turnover all at once. However, there are enough enough friendly and knowledgeable "regulars" that you can count on, but some of them you really have to wonder about. Besides the owner is there most of the time I visit the store.

Are any of you guys members of local fish club? Sorry, I cant think of the real name offhand. I was thinking of trying it out but I'm curious if its worth it. Although they do put on a good sized auction.

Before I drive out there, I'd like to know how it compares to Markheim Pets in Amherst (on Sheridan) which has been the best I've been to around Buffalo so far. Has anyone been to both?

Yeah, I been to Markheim's. I think The Fish Place is better fish wise in being able to get more rare stuff in fish/plants. Definately worth the trip IMO.

When I lived on Grand Island I went to Markheim's, then I went to The Fish Place. Much larger selection of both fish and plants. However Markheim's has a better selection of plant assessories; light strips, fertilizers ect.

BTW The Fish Place is replacing their floor and moving things around so the place does't look the best. There are some empty tanks along with the normal mess that goes with a renovation project.

Great advice on the fish place. I couldn't believe how many tanks there were. I didn't see a dead fish while I was there. (Haven't seen any dead fish at Markheim either, but I got so used to seeing dead ones at the chain stores around here it still suprises me to see a clean tank with healthy fish.)
I picked up some cherry shrimp which disappeared 5 minutes after I let them go in the tank. I can only guess they were an expensive snack for some of my fat tetras. I'm questioning if they could have eaten them, but I can't find them anywhere.

The person that helped me there was very good, I asked a few questions to try and gauge what they knew and they passed.
