My 4ft 120Litre zebra and altum tank (56k warning!!!)

About a month ago I had the oportunity to buy some altum angle fish, that I want for a 500l tank I`m going to setup in the near future. So I changed my big plec tank to acomodate these new fish. The tank is a 4ft 120 litre tank and had a 36" light unit on the top, giving a pretty bad distribution of light.

Heres a pic

I started to collect equiptment for my new 500l tank and so replaced the light unit on this 120l tank with one of the units that will be going on my new tank, 220W of light is now over my 4ft tank I also planted 4 pots worth of glosso and added some co2

Heres a pic of one of my 5 altums

After 2 weeks the glosso is spreading

And another 2 weeks later

I also managed to lay my hands on 5 more L46 Zebra plecs so I have constructed some caves out of piping covered with silicone and substrate glued to them.

Heres a pic of one of the zebras after being released into the tank
I had a big hair algea problem that was sorted by lowering my light period to 7hrs a day.

Cheers for looking

Advice, comments or questions all welcome

Very nice. It should look great once everything grows in.

Did your background accidently get like that or did you purposely do it?

cheers guys

and no Kyle I didnt intend it to come out like that, I had it about 1cm off the back of the tank giving nice fuzzy blue colour but, I splashed asome water on it last week and it stuck to the glass. I`m not too fussed about it tho as this tank will be comming down after xmas, and my new 500L tank will be replacing it. All the fish will be moving to it also.

While I`m at it, I took a nice shot of one of my plecs, so enjoy

Looks great Brennor!

I can't wait to see in in a month when the Glosso really takes off. I like all of the Limnophilia aromaticoides . Very interesting.

Good job on the Pleco cave. If you didn't point it out, I never would have noticed!

Keep the photos coming!

Mike

Awesome looking tank you have in the works. Keep us posted, especially with the altums (for myself) and zebra plecs (you have a decent amount to get going).

I was just curious, I didnt' know if that was the 'new' thing to do. Water soaked backgrounds, heh, you never know.

I like the tank and I really like the idea of the tubing for the plecos but what did you use to glue the gravel to it? I guess most glues would be problematic so maybe silicone?

I put a plastic sink plug in the back of each pipe and then smeared silicone round the pipe and rolled it in a small bag of substrate I have. I was trying to blend them in a bit, as I didnt want them to detract too much from the plants.

pufferfreak the fish did cost me a fortune, the altums are 20 (they are 90 for adults in the UK) each as they are only young, but the zebra plecs were 68 each so in total just shy of 500. The zebra`s were the cheapest I could find. One place wanted 145 per fish!! Like you these are my 2 favourite fish, and I finaly had the opportunity to buy them. I wasnt actualy intending to try buying any for about 6 months, until my new tank is setup, just the opportunity arose and was too good to pass up.

Cheers for the comments folks

I'm curious as to what that cannister shaped piece of equipment is... the one hanging on the outside of the tank in the first set of pictures...
