So I currently have a eheim ecco pro 2232. I'm going to upgrade it to the 2236 because the flow on the 2232 is kinda weak. But since the new one won't have any beneficial bacteria, should I just attach both filters to the tank? It's going to be attached on a 20 gallon long. If the 2236 has too much flow, I can always dial down the output. Could I just move the mechanical filtration and coarse + fine filter pads from the 2232 into the 2236 and essentially get all of the bacteria in there??
If you're replacing the filter completely, why not just put all of the biomedia from the seeded filter in the new one alongside the new pads and additional unseeded biomedia if space allows?
Agreed. If you are getting a new filter, just move all the media from your current filter (pads and all) into the new one.
A cycle can thus be avoided.
