I put in a spoonful of safe in each of the tanks just to be sure

The weather around here just gets more and more ridiculous as the years go by.

Can't argue with that - I'm ready to move to Seattle!

Generators, a small one also.........
Solar panels ..folks laugh and think they are not so great etc.........but if the main electric goes out.....they are your friend, that decentralizes issues like this.

At least in the PacNW the weather is predictable. Sometimes theres a flood or a volcano, but we're usually pretty chill.

A well maintained generator can be golden for times like this and I owned one for a time. But they can also be a terrible problem to maintain so that they will start when you need them. If you are not a mechanical sort and understand engines, a generator can be a big chunk of nothing when you need it. Storing enough gasoline to get you by for more than a day or so can be a real hazard if not done correctly.
It gets down to how you want to gamble. In my case the fish die before the frig and food are lost!

lol I think that's a sign of a hobby gone too far if you're willing to sacrifice food over fish, one which I was willing to do if I did have an option. I was extremely lucky the power came back on because in some areas, it will probably be a week before they start seeing any results.

Though the power only went out for a couple of days, the death toll was kinda bad. Several white clouds, 1 flower shrimp, 3 bearded cory adults and 5 fry (my most prized posessions), 1 emerald brochis...I dosed with some seachem safe and we'll see if there are more victims tomorrow. I am starting wonder whether the large water change I did beforehand during the power outage contributed to the deaths and I'm starting to doubt the efficacy of seachem safe in properly reducing chlorine, at least at it's recommended dosage, compared to prime.

Anyone here use an APU, like those for computers, to power their tank pumps in such emergencies.
