Should I move my shrimp?
Ok so here's the deal. I have a berried blue velvet shrimp *pretty much a blue rili in a 30 gal ADA Amazonia with some CRS's too
2 of my shrimps died today. 1 crs, and 1 blue velvet. checked water peram's everything checked out fine *recently did a tiny water change with aged tap. PH 6.5 ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate around 5 or 10 *colors are really close I have a fluval tank perfect for cherry shrimp, no deaths and they are breeding like rabbits. I didn't want to keep any blue velvets in there for the chance that it would mix with the cherries. But now it's impossible for them to interbreed with her, and if things go smoothly i'd take out her offspring when they are juvies. Would it be safer to move the berried blue velvet into the cherry tank now? Or should I leave her where she is now? Just so it can live in a more comfortable environment? because the PH is higher there and I feel like the cherries are more active. |

I've talked with Speedie a lot about the BVs and they're adaptable to water conditions like any neo. If the only reason you want to move her is to make her feel more comfortable, I'd leave her where she is.
We need exact params, not "everything checked out fine." GH, KH and temp can help us figure out the deaths if you're interested in help with that. I wouldn't put the berried female in the cherry tank. It might cause her to drop her eggs, especially if the params are way different. And females are often saddled and ready to be berried again right after their eggs hatch, so you might not catch her before she's bred by an RCS. -Lisa

Lisa is correct in that she may be berried again before you notice she is ready to come out, however she would have to molt first for the male to have "access" to her "parts."

gotcha. Thanks!
The KH is at 0. tried testing it twice for that. one drop of the API solution and the water never turned blue. GH is at 6. temp: 76 degrees F the tank was previously treated with fenbendazole. I actually see another shrimp that isnt too lively and it's white coloration turned opaque. |

Extra stress wouldn't be good for the shrimp so I would just leave her be.
How's the temp of the tank? |

I think its the nitrates that are doing in the CRS's i read it needs to be 5 or lower.
ways to lower it? the temperature of the tank is 76 degrees F. I won't move them out because yeah it wouldn't be worth it. im using a HoB with some crushed lava rocks but I think I might go out and get Fluval BioMax Media and put it in the filter. |

Opaque shrimp usually signal bacterial infection. I'm in a bit of a rush now so I can't go on and on, but search the site and you'll find out what to do.
