Look at my tank photos, I have a moss wall in my tank. I used plastic mesh sheets and clear plastic thread that I bought from the craft store. I sandwiched the moss in between the two sheets and threaded it closed through the holes in the mesh. I added suction cups to attach the moss wall to the sides of the tank.
If you hit up a craft store (or sometimes even the craft section in a walmart/kmart/target/whatever) you can often times find a plastic screen type material, usually called 'plastic canvas' - it will be in the needlepoint/sewing section usually. Sometimes you can find it in black or other colors, which would work pretty well. It's been used by a lot of people for various aquarium DIY stuff for quite a while, and it's pretty cheap and easy to work with.
I've used window screen material from the hardware store and made a moss wall for a while with that. The holes are smaller than the 'plastic canvas', but it does the trick as well. Or you can buy stainless steel mesh and use that as well.
Whatever strikes your fancy, really
