Beach sand for a shrimp tank
I went to a black sand beach today and brought home some beautiful lava sand. Anyone tried using sand from a ocean beach? I'm wondering if it's ok to just rinse the sand and use it for freshwater shrimp? Any advice?

i would rinse it alot it will be salty but should be inert where it wont mess with ph or anything. best thing is once its been rinsed several times i would leave in bucket and use dechlor and let it set and take parameter readings from it every day or every other day for a couple weeks to make sure nothing major changes and stick and air stone in there too

I would love to see a picture of it! Living in Kansas I have never seen natural black sand. I just see limestone, limestone, flint, limestone and.....limestone. Lol.

Just rinse it really well and you'll be good to go.
