From the fall of the old, a rebirth of Iwagumi - 20g Long

I started out with a 10 gallon tank, nothing crazy, just something for my Betta fish. Then I was tired of the rainbow puke in my tank, went with something more natural. http://imgur.com/a/s5LT2#6 - 10g tank updates

So then after that tank, i wanted something bigger. There was a sale at petsmart for one of the 29g tall tanks. Came with lights and the whole works, figured i would try something planted. Well I learned a lot about light, algae and tiny little snail eggs all over my tank. I also learned that I don't like fluorite, as it is to bright. The tank was also hard to clean and it just wasn't something that I had time for, tore it down and now I have been waiting. http://i.imgur.com/vso5nCm.jpg - 29g about a week after planting.

Dollar a gallon sale at petco, picked up my dream tank of a 20g long. I was making more money now than at the time i started those two other tanks, and with tax season i figured its time to go all out. I want CO2, high lighting, iwagumi, HC carpet... I want the moon.

I would have gone with ADA aquasoil like amazonia if you were gonna do carpeting. Its just really hard to get a nice full carpet with the ecocomplete and you also dont have to worry about root tabs.

I like the rock formation but the build up of soil in the back left seems off since most of the rest is just all flat. Also from the pic it looks like you have it really deep from front to back at like 2+ inches. I would do a bigger slope if your gonna keep the ecocomplete to give it some more depth.

These are just my thoughts and guidelines. I have never done an Iwagumi tank so this is just coming from my point of view.

Keep on chuggin' - Dry start!

So to my surprise the plants came today! Very very fast shipping, they were not frozen at all despite the 20 degree temp here today! shout out to http://shop.plantedaquariumscentral.com they really provided great looking plants! super green and they smell great!

No word from BML yet on when my light will get there, using a backup T5NO 13w 6700k. Should be ok for now. (anyone here know the turn around time on BML to ship their lights?)

Now the photos everyone wanted to see!

Mail Time! / Day 2

Can confirm nilocg is awesome. Ferts came today, along with a few other goodies from GLA and amazon. Cant wait till the DSM is done. Day two for the DSM, everything is still green and the air flow / humidity seems to be legit. I took out some of the water that came with the eco complete because there was way to much of it for a DSM.

Cant wait to see some growth! These lights really do look great! HC is still looking green, but bits of it look like they are dead and dry :X I misted them just a little bit. Added a drop of prime and two drops of flourish to the bottle. The saran wrap is open in two places and the tank still looks a bit humid. I think i will mist every 3 days of something like that, tank isn't to wet. Just have to wait and see now! Hopefully another week under the 10k and we will see something different.

Time for an update!

Tank finally flooded:

and a few days later
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Eh3IxQVSu0

Added a few feeder fish (some of the toughest minnows around) to ease the tank into cycling.

So far everything is testing clean. Water change coming up on Sunday. E.I. dosing is working well and the HC has really taken off, more so than when it was dry started in February. Funny how well it has responded to the flooding, it had its sweet time to get a huge root system thought, so i guess that really helped. Cant wait for it to fill in!.
