I have two Rena Filstar XP4's on my 90g. That's overkill, but I like to overfilter. You can get away with one XP3 if you wanted. They are excellent filters. One of my XP4s is 5 years old now, and many of my other Rena canisters are almost as old. Buying a good, solid canister can save money in the long run with years of excellent performance.

Im using a Aquatop (SunSun) CF500UV. Runs 530gph. One is plenty for a 90 gallon. Has 5 baskets for media. I run 2 of them on my 90 gallon. Like others I like to have the extra filtration and flow. Think they can be had for $129.00 free shipping. Its one of the more well priced filters out there. There are others out there that will work as well. Just depends on what you want to spend.

What's the budget? I own a FX5, 304, and a 205 and the FX5 is amazing, but at a price!! I would recommend the FX5 due to the fact it's whisper quiet and has such a well built design. Also it does around 600-650 GPH filled with media, which is awesome compared to most.

I'm running a Rena XP3 on my 90 gallon. Haven't had any problems.

The aquatop cf500 is $105.00 plus free shipping right now at pet mountain as well. It does have a bit mire room for media with more trays then the Xp3 and quite a bit more flow at 530gph.
