The only problem I can think of is avoided some kinds of stones that will harden the water. Discus like soft, acidic water, I've heard.

Wild discus like soft, acidic water. Tank-bred varieties can live fine in water that's 8.2 pH and 150 GH/KH (people in Asia report breeding them in those conditions).

I'd just keep the tank dark for the first two to three days to avoid them stressing out with the lack of available cover. If you have dither-fish (smaller tetras/rasboras), that may help to calm the discus.

I can keep the ph low. I am gonna have it be a bit of an overgrown iwagumi, with some medium height plants, nothing to make it not an iwagumi but still provide a bit of cover.
