I have three bags of flourite capping a layer of mts in my current tank. I want to add a softer substrate on my future tank for some of my bottom dewellers. Is there other substrates besides sand that are "soft" for my fishes' bellies.
My plan is to use the flourite in a sectioned off part of my aquarium, and have the front be this softer substrate.
Sand is OK.
Peat moss is probably about the softest, but the slightest disturbance will send it all over the tank. I would not use peat for this.
I have Turface and Soil Master Select in most of my tanks, and lots of bottom dwellers.
Flourite is fine.
I guess the little bits always looked sharp to me. But, if it wont cuase them stress or harm then I suppose I'll continue to use it. It has been a wonderful substrate for my plants Thank you both for the helpful feedback!
Flourite is fine for my cories, so I don't think it's too sharp. They all have great barbels, no signs of wear.
