I wanted to reduce the width of the skimmer box that came with a SL-50
that I acquired form eBay, since it was going on a 18 gallon tank. Since my
roommate had some acrylic sheets I decided to make my own skimmer box. I started
by cutting out he sides of the skimmer box.
The L-shaped piece would be my back panel and would attach to the two screws
on the outflow box. I used a Dremel at high speeds to melt/cut the acrylic. I
drilled strainer holes into the three sides.
I used silicone II sealant to glue the parts together. There are more
professional techniques to cut and glue, but this worked fine for me.
I let the glue dry and then removed the access silicone from the outside of
the skimmer box.
