I have a new aquarium (45 Gallon cube, first new tank in over 20 years...) and am interested in having plants. I have been to Aqualand and A World of Fish, but didn't get a great feeling at either place.
+1 for Minnfish. Most are pretty good about pricing - others, not so much. But being able to see the plants before purchasing is definitely a perk. That and not having to deal with shipping.
All depends on where you live and how far you want to drive.
+1 like ROWE said....Minnfish is great. Sometimes it's dry but when people sell, you get great value.
Forest Lake Pets is usually worth the drive. Even if you don't find exactly what you want, they have enough that you'll leave with something.
Tropiquatics in North St. Paul is similar to Forest Lake. They are slightly smaller but have more options for expensive/rare fish. Usually stock the basics for plants but they are one of the few in the metro that you can get rare or interesting plant species... best to call first because the rare species are not always in stock.
I have had very nice plants from LiveAquaria (Drs. Foster). Have to pay shipping but better variety and quality than my LFS. Although, Meijers had some amazingly nice plants last time I was there.
I just got a pack from http://shop.plantedaquariumscentral.com/ great prices and it came from AZ to IA in two days. It was packed in insulation as well. I also got more plants than the package said too so that's a plus!
