Terre Quatics = Good

Aquatropics = Bad

Do not get these 2 confused.
Guess we all have different likes/dislikes but I have to completely disagree with this.
Aquatropics has probably 4x the amount of freshwater fish than Terre Quatics has and has a much larger floor space for tank sales and accessories. Much cleaner store also.
No reptiles like TQ but I'm not into that anyway.

Haven't been to all places on the list but here are my top picks.....
  1. Forest Lake Pets
  2. Aqualand
  3. World of Fish
  4. Pet Expo (Mankato)
  5. Aquatropics
Thanks for the great list of shops!

Another down vote for Aquatropics, the sales guys are jerks. When I first got into the hobby there were parts of the nitrogen cycle that baffled me. I went there and asked them about my high nitrates and they tried selling me a penguin biowheel filter. They claimed I didn't have a good bacteria colony in my filter. That did not sound right to me but they were pushy and derogatory, saying I didn't care about my fish. I left, did some research and found the only way to bring down nitrate levels was to do water changes. If they would not have been pushy and derogatory about my fish care I may have gone back.

Aqualand is my favorite. I haven't been there in a while but the owners are friendly. They have a good fish selection and unlike all the other places I have been they enjoy talking about the hobby, just talking about anything and everything, not selling.

World of fish, is okay, a lot of people really seam to like them, I suspect they are a better salt water shop then freshwater. An employee accidentally double charged my account which caused my checking account to bounce and the owner was ... an a-hole, only offered a sorry which wasn't even sympathetic. Because of the way he just shoved me off I suspect he is that way all the time so I don't do business there anymore.

Sea Level is a good shop, employes are nice and enjoy talking about their fish even if you don't plan on buying anything.

I'm giving 2 thumbs up for Wet World ...
Had many good experiences there and some very knowledgeable employees..

One the other hand Forest Lake Pets, great selection, but when several fish, not cheap ones I might add, became ill very shorty after purchase they were very defensive and a bit rude when discussing over the phone about what was possibly the problem...
End result won't buy from them again..

Tropiquatics in North St. Paul. Great selection of FW fishes and RARE FW fishes. Consider it the mini version of Forest Lake Pets. Seng, the owner is a great guy to do business with. He specializes in Discus and everything else. I Highly recommend Tropiquatics. The fish room is identical to FLP!

Tropiquatics in N St. Paul's staff isn't great but their selection is pretty impeccable. Any freshwater tropical fish you want they should pretty much have both male and female of or be willing to order. WOF by the airport is pretty good too. Their plants are kinda weedy though. I prefer petco's plants, they're surprisingly healthier. I'm going to be trading livestock at aquatropics in a few days because of compatibility issues, we'll see how they are. It looks promising from what I've heard.

REMEMBERING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TROPIQUATICS AND AQUATROPICS IS SO HARD!!!!

All Reef is no more. I'm good friends with the owner Peggy, she helped me set up my pico when it was saltwater. Her store was one of a kind goodness and as long as there weren't a other customers she would talk about the hobby for hours with you.

lol

Best spot for inverts!

Whats the best spot for rare to common invert, specifically dwarf shrimps. I would like to get decent affordable shrimp stuff locally if I could. And don't say WOF, they have outrageous prices, not to my likes...

Just wanted to save people a trip, but I checked out a couple stores on the list on the west side of town.

Noah's Ark Fish & Pet Supply
40 Water Street
Excelsior, MN 55331
952-474-1936....
don't waste your time, half the tanks were literally empty of water and the other half had only goldfish.

Pet Stuff
14665 Excelsior Blvd
Minnetonka, MN 55345
952-930-9383
does not carry live fish only supplies...mostly dog supplies

Does anyone know if there is a store in North St. Paul anymore? I know Tropiquatics switched to BeeJays Betas. I've heard that it closed now.

Lately I have been seeing talk of another place with a similar name to Tropiquatics opening in North St. Paul. I tried to look it up and the address came up a few blocks down from the old location on the same street.

Can anyone clarify?

There is a place called Tropixiotics. I have tried to go there a couple of times (I work at 3M), but the door has been locked each time, even though it was during their open hours.

I recently went to Sonnen's in downtown St Paul and while the place is small, the fish health and quality are excellent and the owner is as knowledgeable and friendly a guy as you will find.
