I am attempting to build my own 45 gallon aquarium, but I don't know how thick the glass needs to be. My local hardware store has 1/8" double strength glass. Would that be strong enough and if not what would be the correct thickness? Does anyone have an idea of a good place to look for reasonably priced custom glass in central Ohio?
Here's a calculator that will help you. I honestly don't know if you can keep the cost under a $100 for glass, I would go into your yellow pages and look up glass companies and ask for prices. Most of those places will custom cut glass to the size you want as well. But your best bet is just to get quotes for now.
Don't buy it from a hardware store... you need to go to a glass shop. In google maps, search for "glass company, YOUR city here, your state here". You can also call custom window shops.
Use the calculator, figure it out, then call around with the basic cut list and you should be able to get a good price. You should easily be able to stay under 100 dollars....
