I bought a ludwigia repen a little over a week ago and it was fine for a few days and then it started losing leaves. Most of them coming off from the bottom half. Coloring is same as when I got it (green with some red)
What should I do?
I noticed a lot of leaves falling off my plants. Added CO2 (DIY with sugar and yeast) and to stopped. Plants that are red in color needs CO2 and and other nutrients to thrive.
You would think lighting would be enough. But I have 4x24 T5HO with a current led+. Once they grow in they could be shadowing the lower section. Its even a bigger effect if they are in bunches. Post a picture OP.
You expect any plants to be shaded by other plants and so are the bottom leaves, there's no way around that, unless you space them inch apart, and still the bottom leaves will not get as much light. Cut the tops and replant them, that's what most do and what I do.
I think you should just cutt off the lower bad leaves and replant the top under better lighting. ..... and also do a 50% water change just to give it a fresher start
The plant looks emerse grown, it looks like it may just be transitioning to submersed growth. Losing the lower leaves in this situation is not due to a nutrient deficiency.
Also not so sure that is Lud. repens. The leaves look too long for that species. Perhaps tinanti can tell you what species it is for sure.
It won't die. It will just lose some leaves as it transitions to underwater leaves. The leaves it has now are not adapted to being underwater and they are dying off because of that.
As long as you provide a decent nutrient supply to the plant via root tabs or water column fertilizing and enough light it should start to grow properly within a week or so.
It is Ludwigia glanduosa, not Ludwigia Repens. It is transitioning to submersed growth like everyone said. I always had trouble with this plant even with high light and co2/ ferts when it transitions to submersed growth.
Yes, it likely just needs time to sort itself out and grow underwater leaves. As long as you are adding fertilizers like normal then it won't develop deficiencies.
Like I said previously I does flourish excel and flourish iron daily and I does flourish twice a week. And I do root tabs every few months. I just ordered liquid ferts from a guy on here that makes his own that I hope will be better then what I'm doing. Here's his link and it's the first stuff: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/showthread.php?t=649202&highlight=
