Why????
Why is it when I look at plants form my tank everybody online puts the height that it will grow to?
I have several plants in my tank that I bought because of the height they quoted. Now these same plants are 2-3 times the height quoted. So what is the purpose of placing the height when it is not accurate? |

keep in mind the conditions the plants are grown in will contribute considerably to how big or small they get. water parameters, ferts, substrate, lighting, co2 lots of variables. so i dont think people are always lying just more giving there experience.

Try google searching the species in the future....articles or species descriptions from a reputable source can be generally more accurate than an inexperienced hobbyist. However, they can also be misleading or incorrect as well.

I did a lot of research on the plants I have and the Myrio everywhere says up to 20".......I bought they were 5" and now have some that are over 40". And getting much bigger. All I have is Flourite as a substrate and a 3 bulb 6700k T5 HO lights. I do ferts once a week after a 50% water change. I have no co2 yet but once I get it I'm sure my hard to grow plants will take off and the Myrio will just grow even faster.

you could just trim it, I mean I feel like most plants that have the potential to grow to a particular height won't grow taller if its allowed to, especially if we are looking at plants that can grow out of water as well.
btw, not to de-rail, but I keep seeing ROAK everywhere, what does it stand for? I can't figure it out on my own lol

Stem plants don't have any predetermined height. They grow until they break and off the tops go to start another colony.
Stems need to be topped [and either plant the tops or send them off to new homes] or pulled, bottoms chopped off and tops replanted. No way around it. You want a plant that grows to a predetermined height then stops, try rosettes [really very short stems] like Anubias, swords and crypts or running plants like hairgrass, Marsilea, java fern. Even they will grow up once the planting is crowded. And they change according to I don't know what. My 8" crypt is now 18". It was 8" for a decade and now it is a tank eater.

^I want a crypt like that lol
I wonder, if someone had a 9 foot tall tank, could they get a stem plant to grow up to the top of the tank? Lighting might be a difficult thing to accomplish that far down, but just theoretically is it possible? Imagine something insane like a tank with 9 foot long stems of R.macarandara or something equally absurd

I'm talking about going to websites like Drs. F&S and they have plants and state max height. Well when I do my research on the plants I wanted and they all say about the same max height I then design my tank around those measurements. But it seems that, that is not the case. Even if they put 'this is the recommended height' then it would make a difference.
