Weird green bumps on Java fern 'windelov'

So I dug out my java fern 'windelov' from where it's buried at the back of my tank to trim it out and cut off a chunk of rhizome to give to my mom as part of her bday present, but I noticed that a lot of leaves, and even chunks of the rhizome, are covered in these weird little green bumps.

Sorry for the mostly unclear shots, phone was all I had handy. The end of the rhizome in the shot is covered in them.

I tried to google it and couldn't find anything that matches it. The closest I came was spores for reproducing, but those seem to be more brown than green and don't seem to be on the rhizome itself. And I'm pretty confident it's not new plantlet growth because there's just too many of these bumps; some of the new leaves were almost entirely just bumps.

Anyone have any idea? Thanks!
