Recovering from the storm

How's everyone tanks since the storm? I'm still out of power since 10:00 Friday and my fish are alive, but stressed.

My tanks ( 125g, two 75g, 44g, and 20g) all made it fine despite no power for 24 hours!

I got power back on Monday. Of three tanks, only the cold water tank had problems. I'm losing a fantail goldfish. He's acted funny since the outage so even with doubling wc from weekly to biweekly I'm pretty sure he's a gonner. The house got to 87 degrees for most of the weekend so the tropical fish in the other tanks were fine. I'm glad your tanks did well. Here's to no more power outages.

I live in an old cabin near Furnace Mt, and was without power for 5 days. My three tanks:
- 30g long Crawfish tank
-40g breeder Live Bearer tank
-20g long Red Cherry Tank

All were well cycled, but oxygen became the first big problem for the Crawfish tank since it was just loaded with some feeder fish, and the temperatures reached about 85F (tropical tanks doubtfully noticed much). Temporarily overstocked, yes, but I have a very awesome diy filtration system for this tank (now I will surely have to post about this). Lost some feeder fish until the batteries were able to be charged in the morning.

The Crawfish were getting pissed when the O2 became too low (I know how happy they are by whether they try to escape). Well, -two managed to escape. One was found pathetically crawling across the floor, and one decided to hide under a rug...and....well....he became a victim of the circumstances.

The Live Bearer tank barely noticed, and the RCS + a few Bee Shrimp (which was the tank I was most concerned about since they were my newest addition *addiction*, never seemed to notice.

The plants probably suffered the most since the lights were kept off to conserve power, but surprisingly they seemed to pull through relatively unscathed.

I was JUST taking about getting a battery backup ~2 days before the storm.

Now that I am the proud Mama of RCS Shrimplets and I have 30 more in the mail, our generator is now broken in and at least I know I can turn to car batteries and an inverter for emergencies.

The three ~75ft poplar trees in my front yard didn't exactly help the power people, and since I'm on a mountain the power company had to deal with this situation for almost everyone. Thank goodness we had a friend in town with power, or the lack of AC would have really been a problem for me (another very long story....short version is I have Chronic Lyme).

Yeah I'm lucky that most of my tanks are in the basement where it is nice and cool.

My 75 rainbow and 44 angel tanks were pushing high 80's and was about to break out the ice cubes before the power kicked on thank god!

I'm looking into getting a small generator for my tanks just in case this ever happens again. I'm in a one level house and it's poorly insulated. I did lose my oldest goldfish.
