1 Gallon Bowl
I am making my porch into a place were I can go to read in the evenings and wanted to add a 1 gallon bowl for a few small aquatic plants. I was wondering if I could put shrimp in it? I am in southern California so the weather is pretty nice.

Depending on how long it's in direct sunlight.

I would fill the bowl up with water. Put the plants I desire in it, then put it in its new location with a thermometer and recored the temp changes over a 24h timespan. From there I would decide if it needs more shade, more air flow ext. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Define "pretty nice." It's not going to get too cold for most of the shrimp species that are commonly kept, as long as the bowl doesn't freeze solid, but a hot afternoon could very well kill your shrimp.

The porch has a roof and there are two large trees behind it so the bowl will not get any direct sunlight.

If you have Mosquitos in your area make sure you watch for those wigglers. They'll kill your shrimp too.

Hoppy told me it would be a bad idea to do it in mu old thread "Is ambient light enough?" I thought of using a vase indoors, but the principle is the same.
