That's actually really good to know because on sites that I see with para guard they're always like use half dose....but I never do and use full with no regrets as of yet

I'll elaborate when I have some time to hop on the PC. I hate typing long responses on my iPhone.

Totally different topic but since you asked, this is my disinfectant method using bleach. Keep in mind this method will not only get rid of bacteria but also planaria, hydra, and snails (pretty much it'll exterminate all living things). This may not be for everyone so do take this info with a grain of salt.

1. Remove all the shrimp/snails and whatever living animal you don't want to kill out and into a makeshift tank. Mine usually consist of sand/bare bottom tank. Water parameters have to match the tank they came out of. Do daily 20% water changes on this tank. Dose Melafix if you prefer to heal any bacterial infected shrimp.

2. Pour 1/2cup of bleach per 10gal into the affected tank. Do not remove or turn off the filter. It needs disinfecting as well. Let the tank run its course for 2 days. The room may stink like bleach for a good day. Towards the end of the second day the bleach should have dissipated and it shouldn't smell so bad then.

3. Day 3, do a 100% WC using tap water. Dump in some dechlor (Prime) as the bottle recommends. Let that run for another 2 days.

4. Day 5, do a 100% WC using RO. Let it run for another 1 day.

5. Day 6, do a 100% WC using RO remineralized to your specific shrimp parameters. Test your parameters 8hrs later and it should check out good. Dose some Mosura BT9.

6. Day 7, test water again and put shrimp in if it checks out. That's it!

Caution: Bleach at your own risk!

I wasn't gonna tell anyone my secret but had to let it out to help the community since it is bacterial bloom season. Melafix WORKS!
