Not necessarily. I considered my 55g gal hi tech when I had it running. Every weekend I was pruning to control plant growth. Here and there I would move plants around or trim and replant but never and hardscaping done. Generally I am happy with my aquascape by the time the tank has cycled.

I had my 75 with CO2 with only minor changes for maybe 6 years. The final scape did not look much like the original, but it was incremental evolutionary change, never gut rehab. It depends on the kind of plants you are growing plus the rate you grow them at. All stem plants in a CO2 tank can change as often as you like.

How often do you re-scape?

A) When I realize that particular plant isn't going to do well in my tank i.e., doesn't like my light, water, tank size, fish, inverts or it's fellow plants.

B) When I realize what I thought would look good...Does NOT look good.

C) When I get bored looking at the the current scape.

Some as short as a month, my current display tank is 8mos. and I'm sure it will stay tat way until next August. That is if the Mayan calendar prophets are wrong and everything is peachy keen on 12-22-2012

when i started i was rescaping almost monthly, over dosed with prime every time to prevent ammonia spikes. as i have gotten better at scaping my tanks i have rescaped less and less. currently my 29g(the story in my sig) has been set up for about and i have plans to rescape.

I never rescape my tanks, and I'm not planning to do it either lol :p

Like someone else stated before me, I'd much rather just buy a new tank. Then again, I only like to scape nanos 10G and under, so maybe it's easier for me to find space hahaha

If I come up with a new idea, I'll start the re-scape process right there... OCD it's not good

Well this is making me feel much better. I've had mine going for a little over a month and now it's time to make it have a purpose. I'm not mad at what I've got but I think it could be much more, welcome to the club right. This has been much more fun than I thought it would be.

I try to avoid rescaping when I can. Last time I did it on purpose I ruined a perfectly good tank with a BGA outbreak. I usually rescape when forced to after I let the tank go for a few months and the vals take over.

Only thing i regret when rescaping was moving around my heavy rooters, i think i might of stunted their growth because of all the moving... they didnt look the same after

Every year I do a major rescape substrate and everything get pulled and re planted. But my non planted 100gal gets a rescape every 6 months or so.

Most of the time I average a year on each tank. If I only had one tank I would do it more but I have 5 tanks running.

I go the high-tech route and I almost never rescape. If I have a new idea, I plan for a new tank. I suppose eventually there will be no more room for new tanks and things may change, but for now, no rescaping unless I have to tare a tank down for some reason.
