So I made a setup not too long ago and I was wondering if my moss will grow under these conditions? I have the filtration flowing down the background? The Christmas doesn't look like they're thriving. Is something wrong here? [emoji22]
is the tank sealed? Whats the humidity? As long as the humidity is high it should be fine but moss is slow to adapt and it may take a couple months to fully adapt from submersed to emersed. I have java moss in a sealed terrarium and its doing great.
Hi Alex, thanks for replying me. I have terminated the project. The moss weren't doing great, when I bought them it comes in sheets with soil underneath it, I'm not sure what moss I got but it never thrived. I've thrown everything away, I'll do a new setup all over again soon but not now thanks!
You might need different types for different conditions.
Most of the aquarium mosses will grow really well in a wet emersed type environment, so you might be able to start by putting bits of them around the waterfalls and waterline. As they grow, they will be able to wick water up a bit, and allow moss a bit further away to grow as well.
Some of the terrestrial mosses may not do well if constantly wet. Might be worth trying a couple pieces of wood/bark/stone with moss already growing on them, and just place them in there and hope it spreads to other parts. It will be a slow process though.
I also have found mosses slow to adapt to new situations. The original material slowly dies off, and new shoots or even new plants (from spores, I assume) grow, if the setting is right. These shoots and plants will be fairly well attached (depending on the species of moss) to rocks, wood or even equipment. Not so much to glass, though.
