The very next morning I found one crawling around in the laundry tub.He got flushed down the commode! I've lived here 24 years and have never seen one before. Jimbo.

Have to love google, thats a woodlouse spider, not aquatic and probably not what was causing the shrimp to die.

Thanks NWA-Planted,I looked it up and you are right on the money. My shrimp deaths seem to have stopped or at least slowed way down. I just did a 50% water change which I do about every two weeks. I think it probably has to do with the feeding. I think there is a fine line in what is too much or too little. Thanks again. Jimbo.

I know what you mean, just trying shrimp myself, I only feed about twice a week, I would also change your water at least once a week at 50% might be getting some ammonia or nitrate spikes

Holy shizzzzzzzz.

I hate spiders, I kill every one I see. Yeah.....I wouldn't even keep this thing around......light it on fire even if it's dead.

It's highly possible that the shrimp picked at the spider... an that could have killed it.

Most crazy in my tank found is a couple of earwigs.

Nwa-Planted,
I've had this tank shrimp tank for over a year now and never had any problems. I feed them every day(once in awhile I'll skip a day) and I try not to over feed which I read is usually the problem. It's tuff, too much food and you get bugs,(planaria, etc.) not enough food and they don't grow, molt,or breed. And I sell to two lfs so the population is always changing. Jimbo.

I've heard stories of bees falling into people's tanks and killing off a good chunk of shrimp.

What'd you do with the spider? Chuck it?

diwu13,
No, I've got it frozen in a little jar with water in it. Now that I have the pictures and know what it is I guess I should toss it.

You know.. now that I think about it. It must be what has killed the shrimp. Normally, if something non-poisonous dies in the tank the shrimp would eat it. Look at that spider, it's like near perfectly preserved. The shrimp must have known something was up to not eat it!

I kinda think that your'e right because they gobble up everything else, their own kind, dead fish and anything else that they might run across. Kinda creepy if ya think about it. Jimbo.

There is a species of spider that is capable of diving in water and hunting aquatic prey. The fine hair in its abdomen hold air in a bubble around it. Its called the diving bell spider but pics of it dont look a lot like this one
