Canister filter to saltwater tank

I am converting the saltwater tank that had an internal overflow that lead that into the sump. Thinking of replacing the sump with a canister filter. Need to find canister filter that will take a 3/4 PVC pipe. The tank is 55 gallon.

Does anyone have experience on this conversion ? Would the fluval 306 work ?

Thanks for the help.

The Aquatop CF500 uses 3/4 hose for its intake and its return. So it could be used. Its rates at 530 gph of flow.

BTW there are several people using Sumps with their planted tanks. So if you want to keep it a sump and save yourself trouble you can easily do that.

Did the pump fail? Why would you ever go back from using a sump???

There should be a fitting (barbed)to cut the 3/4 pipe down to a size that will fit into the tubing. I just take a bit of the tubing to the store and see what size fits. You can drive yourself crazy with whehter the tubes/pipes are ID or od sized so I like to see it fit before buying.

You can also buy tubing reducers that actually have nuts too keep the hose on as well. A barbed fitting should work on it's own but you could just put a hose clamp on for safety and it's a dirt cheap solution.
